NOURA MINT SEYMALI
Sahrawi griot songs - Mauritania

Noura Mint Seymali embodies the richness of Africa. Born into a family of Mauritanian griotes, her extraordinary timbre and sound are the link between the Maghreb and West Africa. She also federates generations with her music and lyrics, which are both traditional and radically contemporary. This open-mindedness has enabled her to collaborate with artists such as Damon Albarn, Baaba Maal, Tinariwen and Spoek Mathambo, and to perform at the best festivals.

Noura Mint Seymali’s live performances are a truly spellbinding tour de force, transporting audiences into a desert khaima (tent), floating with the timeless music of Moorish griots. Inspired by the structure of traditional Mauritanian performances, in which a strict cycle of five modes directs the flow of energy, the trajectory of Noura Mint Seymali’s concerts is designed to intensify the experience, like water gathering before breaking into a powerful frenzy of rhythm and ecstatic vocal power.

WIRE magazine describes her band as « an impeccable explosion of traditional Mauritanian music and psychedelic rock… some of the most exhilarating scenes ever seen at a festival. »

The website **The Quietus** calls the show « a veritable sandstorm of hypnotic grooves. »
