For years, Maurice Louca and Abdullah Miniawy have nurtured a deep admiration for each other’s work, often crossing paths and collaborating on stage in Cairo. In early 2021, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Abdullah found himself stranded in Berlin by a snowstorm, in a confinement that proved so inspiring that it gave birth – along with Maurice – to their joint project. Now in the final creative stage of their album, they come together to report on this brand-new project, in which Maurice Louca’s inventive variations reveal Abdullah Miniawy’s Egyptian dialect texts, which he abandons for a time in the classical forms of Arabic poetry.
