AITA MON AMOUR
Aïta Mon Amour is a duo made up of Widad Mjama and Khalil EPI . This project is the fruit of Widad’s fascination with the ancestral Moroccan art of the Aïta, a popular musical genre rooted in the Moroccan countryside and sung by the Chikhates, the women who are the guardians of a centuries-old tradition.
Aïta, meaning ‘cry’ or ‘call’ in Moroccan dialect Arabic, embodies both the call of the warriors and the lament of love. This contemporary, electronic musical project explores this rich tradition dating back to the 12th century. AÏTA MON AMOUR celebrates this oral art form with a desire to build bridges between past and present, deconstruct the perceptions that define the genre and make it resonate in the contemporary, digital age.
