Accompanied by Widad Mjama and Nidhal Jaoua, Deena Abdelwahed explores Arabic musical structures through the lens of electronic music and live performance in “Diwan Midi.” At the heart of the setup is a prototype MIDI qanun developed at Ircam, which blends traditional instrument-making with digital control. The project juxtaposes Arabic ornamentation and melodic modes with contemporary compositional tools.
