Mustapha Benmansour, also known as Must Rousnam, is an Algerian music producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist from Tlemcen. Through his work, he redefines the boundaries of electronic music by incorporating the sonic memory of Algeria’s musical heritage. His work lies at the intersection of field recordings, ethnomusicological research, and contemporary sound design, creating a dialogue between regional traditions and avant-garde electronic textures. Exploring a wide range of styles such as chaoui, Bedouin, hawfi, gasba, and Andalusian music, Must Rousnam seeks to preserve the emotional depth of these traditions while transposing them into a modern, rhythmic, and cerebral aesthetic.
*Aswat Jamila* is his debut album, consisting of eight tracks, each inspired by a region of Algeria. It is a journey across the country, through its voices, rhythms, and instruments, transformed by an electronic and experimental approach.
