Since its designation as a UNESCO Global Geopark, the Dahar region has gained a new asset for promoting its landscapes, heritage, and traditional skills. This recognition also raises a key question: How can this international distinction be transformed into a genuine opportunity for development for both residents and the region?
For this new edition of AGORA E-FEST, CAMP is hosting a discussion on the prospects for authentic, responsible tourism rooted in the local community.
How can we better showcase the natural and cultural riches of the Dahar? How can we make tourism a driver of local development while preserving social and environmental balance? And how can we build a sustainable synergy between Djerba and the Dahar, two major destinations in southeastern Tunisia?
To discuss these issues, three different perspectives will come together to address three key questions:
- A Region Confronting Its Vulnerabilities
What are the social, economic, and environmental vulnerabilities of the Dahar region, and what measures can help reduce them?
- Toward Authentic Tourism in the Dahar
What are the region’s strengths, and how can we develop an alternative tourism offering that respects the local environment and benefits local communities?
- Djerba–Dahar: Building a Complementary Destination
What role can specialized media and tourism professionals play in raising awareness of the Dahar and creating sustainable synergies between the two destinations?
The event will bring together sociologist and anthropologist Mohamed Nejib Boutaleb and Mr. Nader Zidi, a tourism professional and active member of the Tunisian Federation of Travel Agencies (FTAV). It will be moderated by Samir Khorchani, a representative of our local partner, the ASPG. This event will provide a forum for reflection on the links between tourism, heritage, and regional development, and on how to make tourism a genuine tool for discovering, preserving, and promoting regions, for the benefit of their residents and local economies.
